The first workshop for children held in Zagreb
In mid-March, the Cyclists' Union held a workshop on safe bicycle riding for 5th-grade students of the Odra Elementary School. The workshop was held as part of the SafeCycle4Kids project, implemented by partners from Portugal, Slovakia, Serbia, Greece and Croatia.
The main goal of the project is to encourage a healthy lifestyle for children, supporting the adoption of cycling as a way of active travel that can improve the level of physical activity. Safe cycling education for children and parents, which can be used as a basis for intervention throughout Europe, has been developed by the project partners based on good practices that have been applied so far in various countries.
The SafeCycle4Kids concept is based on two principles that will increase the safety and thus the confidence of young cyclists and their families:
- 1) Parental perception of children's cycling and traffic skills is an important prerequisite for children's independent movement.
- 2) Increasing children's cycling and traffic skills are important goals in promoting cycling among children.
The SafeCycle4Kids project educates parents and children about safe cycling, to overcome feelings of insecurity and encourage them to cycle. Our goal is to increase the level of physical activity of children and families through an economical, green and inclusive method of exercise - cycling.
In Croatia, the project is implemented in 4 elementary schools in the area of the City of Zagreb (Odra Elementary School, Jelkovec Elementary School, Kralj Tomislav Elementary School and Tin Ujević Elementary School).
